Women's Union

The Women's Union was founded in 1893 by ministers' wives.

A celebration lunch to mark its centenary was given in Glasgow City Chambers in April 1993 when city dignitaries, Congregational Church Office Bearers and representatives from each Women's Union District were present.   Following unification in April 2000, we have formed growing links with the Yorkshire Women's Committee and attend various events in each Synod.

In the latter part of March a three day convention is held by the Christian Women's Scottish Convention at the Scottish Churches House, Dunblane. At the latter part of April a two day Bible Study is held in Scottish Churches House, Dunblane. These events are open to all women - and a few men have been brave enough to attend the Convention!

Each year we have a 'Project' when we support a different charity.  Despite having less than thirty branches, we raise between £2,500 and £3,000 each year. The year runs from each Annual Business & Public meeting, normally held in September, to the next.  For 2006/7 we supported Asthma Campaign, Scotland and for 2007/8 we will be supporting Parkinson's Disease Society.

The Christian Women's Scottish Convention will be held from 28th to 30th March 2008 when the guest speaker will be Rev. Barry Hutchison from Holy Island.  For details and booking forms contact Mrs Lyn Higton, 40 Northfield Park, Annan DG12 5EZ, tel: 01461 201907.

The Women's Union Bible Study will be held the 16th and 17th April 2008 when the leader will be Canon E. Jane Clay from the Chaplaincy team at Newhall Women's Prison in Wakefield. For details and booking forms contact Mrs Moyra Young, 18 Thorkel Road, Thurso KW14 7LW, tel: 01847 893932.
