Resolution
2019/03/3

  1. The
National Synod of Scotland notes its 2015 decision to divest fossil fuel
companies whose total turnover is more than 10% derived from the extraction
and/or supply of fossil fuels, mindful that the latest scientific evidence
points clearly and unequivocally to the urgency of transitioning to a net-zero
    carbon economy.
  • Notes
that the 2015 decision has received widespread positive publicity and played a
role in raising the profile of divestment by faith organisations from fossil
    fuel producing companies.
  • Resolves
to now promote a change to the URC’s Ethical Investment Guidelines on Climate
Change Issues, based on the following paper and accompanying resolutions.

Resolution
2019/03/3A

Should
any other synod or synods bring resolutions about fossil fuel investments to
the forthcoming meeting of Mission Council, (this) Synod authorises its
Moderator and Clerk to amend the wording of its resolution, if they judge that
such an amendment would allow Synod to make common cause with others without
infringing its own express concerns.
