Synod Day of Celebration an Outstanding Success Hundreds of URC folk descend on Perth Racecourse for Day of Celebration and Building Confidence in the Church Just under 600 adults and children descended on a wet and eventually waterlogged Perth Racecourse on Saturday 23 June 2007 for the Synod Day of Celebration and Festival. Buses came from far and near and it was indeed a "day to enjoy and remember" as John Wylie's programme notes stated. It was a day for building confidence in the Church, with many opportunities for doing this through meeting one another and participating in a wide variety of workshops: Churches Agency for Interfaith Relations in Scotland; There were also programmes for children and teenagers. Despite the weather, participants clearly enjoyed themselves and there was an air of enthusiasm, confidence and yes inspiration about the proceedings. Banners and compilations of church stories showed the hard work which had been done in local churches in preparation for this unique day in our church calendar. The rain which affected the day - becoming torrential during a Communion Service punctuated by thunder and lightning - failed to affect the enthusiasm and enjoyment which people clearly displayed, singing their hearts out to the music of Stephen Brown and friends. Synod will indeed WALK ON with hope and confidence for the future. |
