Events2008 16 June (Monday): Conversations 2008 - South Link: Venue - Hamilton United Reformed Church at 7.30 p.m. Three members of the Synod team - Revd John Humphreys, Synod Moderator, Dr Jim Merrilees, Synod Clerk, and Mr Tom Woodbridge, Synod Treasurer - will be holding 'conversations' to give church secretaries, treasurers, elders and deacons of South Link the chance to ask questions and to help the Synod team find more ways to serve churches. 18-19 June (Wednesday-Thursday - afternoon to afternoon): Ministering with Older People - Venue: Scotus College, Bearsden, nr Glasgow The College together with Morningside United Church has a special category minister post to support the development of this increasingly important and core aspect of ministry in the community. This course is for ministers in pastorates, specialist ministers and those who share in working alongside older people. This is a residential course though non-residential places may be available. Cost is £125 including full board and materials. 20 June (Friday) - 3 July (Thursday) Murrayfield Churches Together - Visit of Esther Wanjohi: Esther Wanjohi, coordinator of Ecumenical Women's Project in Nairobi will be a guest of Murrayfield Churches Together from Friday 20 June 2008 as part of their celebration of 21 years of working together. While she is here there will be many opportunities to hear about "The Ecumenical Day Care and Support Women Project' in Ngong Hills, Kenya of which she is now the director and consultant. Programme: Sunday 22 June: Meet Esther and hear some of her story at Saughtonhall URC - All welcome. Friday 27 June: 10.30 a.m. Representatives of URC meet with Esther Sunday 29 June: 11.00 a.m. Esther with congregation for morning worship at Saughtonhall URC. 5.30 p.m. Esther joining 'Together@MCT' with an African theme. Explore how to select, shape and share your stories confidently. Led by Elspeth Murray and Richard Medrington. Places are limited, please book in advance. Each workshop can be booked separately at a cost of £15 per workshop. Book the whole series for 4 workshops for £50. Visit www.creativespaceedinburgh.org.uk to download a leaflet. 25 June (Wednesday): Israel and the Occupied Territories Day: Venue - URC Church House or a nearby Church 10.30-3.00 p.m. Speakers - Nigell Varndell andm Jonathan Gorsky. Nigell Varndell has been Christian Aid's Inter-Faith Manager for the last two years. Prior to that he worked as Church Relations Manager and was responsible for co-ordinating Christian Aid's input into Commitment for Life. For the last seven years he has also been a member of Christian Aid's Advocacy Group for the Palestinians and Israel responsible for communicating these issues to Christian Aid's supporting Churches and other faith groups. He travels to the region regularly to meet with Christian Aid and Commitment for Life partners. Jonathan Gorsky lectures in Judaism and Jewish Christian relations at Heythrop College, University of London. Previously, he was education adviser to the Council of Christians and Jews, where he worked for about 13 years. He is an orthodox Jew whose degrees are in history, which he studied at Liverpool and Manchester universities. This meeting is for the sole purpose of ordaining Helen M Mee to the ministry of Word and Sacraments and to induct her to serve with the Livingston Ecumenical Parish following her appointment as locum minister with the parish.

This is part of the process of becoming a safe church.
