Double celebration in New Year honours

Two of the congregations that make up the United Reformed Church National Synod of Scotland are celebrating after people connected with their churches were recognised for their work in the New Year’s honours list.

Arthur Winfield from Aberdeen and Morag Simpson from Edinburgh (seated in the wheelbarrow) were each awarded the British Empire Medal.

Arthur received his medal for his services to heritage in Aberdeen as leader of the Mither Kirk Project at the Kirk of St Nicholas Uniting.

Morag was recognised for her work in amateur dramatics in Edinburgh, where she has acted with the drama group at Saughtonhall United Reformed Church since the 1950s and has been its director since 1981.
